Leave Me Alone

A protest song & video zine.

I wrote "Leave Me Alone" almost three years ago and unfortunately it has never been more relevant. Roe v Wade is dangling by a thread and honestly the whole ordeal has revealed how little freedom we ever actually had. Individual states have been working to strip womxn of their rights in the decades following the first ruling, and it's finally risen back up to the national level. This song is meant to capture the spirit of frustration, protest, and unbridled rage that wells up for womxn -- and quite frankly any vulnerable group -- every day that the government/capitalism/patriarchy tries to control us. Whether it be by banning *safe* abortions, taxing our menstrual products, or even just whistling at us out of a car window. I hope this song taps into a space of productive anger -- a feeling that will both be cathartic to scream about, and also motivating. We deserve to be left alone. And I think the time is ripe to fight for that right.

The companion music video -- directed by Lissette Schuster, produced by Emily Pudalov -- is meant to bring to life a modern take on a '90s riot grrrl zine. And... we made a digital zine, too! I hope you read it and feel heard, or at the very least, learn something.
